CUSTOM SIGNS

What does your building say to someone who has never heard of you? For most businesses, the answer is written entirely in signage. M Graphics & Signs Inc builds custom signs in Salt Lake City, UT for storefronts, offices, restaurants, and industrial properties across Salt Lake County.

A SIGN WORKS EVERY HOUR YOUR DOORS ARE OPEN.

Advertising stops when the budget stops. Signage keeps selling from the moment it goes up, catching drivers, walkers, and delivery traffic without another dollar spent. That is why we treat a custom sign as infrastructure rather than decoration, and why we build it to survive the weather, the vandalism, and the years ahead of it.

Our crews measure the site, our designers proof the artwork at full scale, and our fabricators build to that drawing. Nothing is guessed, so nothing has to be redone after the lift leaves.

Smoother Daily Operation

A door sized and hung correctly opens and closes without sticking, dragging, or requiring a shoulder to shut. We confirm dimensions and swing direction before ordering so the finished door operates the way it should from day one.

CUSTOM SIGNS

YOUR NAME DESERVES BETTER THAN A STOCK PANEL.

Off-the-shelf signage forces your brand into someone else's proportions. Custom work runs the other direction, starting from your logo, your frontage, and the distance your customers approach from. We adjust letter weight so it stays legible at speed, choose finishes that read well under both daylight and streetlight, and size the piece to the largest footprint your zoning district allows. The sign ends up looking designed for that address, because it was.

SALT LAKE CITY FRONTAGES ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.

A Sugar House storefront with 8 feet of setback needs nothing like a warehouse on Redwood Road facing four lanes of traffic. We survey each property before drawing anything, checking approach angle, tree cover, competing signage, and available wall structure. Those findings shape the recommendation, which is why our proposals rarely look like the sign next door. Local code enters the conversation early, before a concept becomes something you have fallen for.

EVERY LESSON SINCE 1999 IS BUILT INTO YOUR SIGN.

We opened in 1999 as a small shop in South Salt Lake and have spent every season since learning what survives this valley. That history shows up in small decisions: which fasteners hold in tilt-up concrete, which paints hold color on a south-facing elevation, which municipalities want revisions before they will stamp a drawing. You get the benefit of those lessons without paying for the learning. What are you hoping your building could look like?

WHAT A CUSTOM SIGN DELIVERS

FOUND ON THE FIRST PASS

Customers who cannot find you rarely try twice. A sign built for your actual sight lines turns a drive-by into a walk-in, especially for first-time visitors following a map.

A BRAND THAT LOOKS INTENTIONAL

Matching color, type, and finish across every sign on the property signals that the business behind them is run carefully. Customers read that consistency as competence before anyone speaks.

BUILT TO OUTLAST THE LEASE

Signage engineered for wind load, snow, and ultraviolet exposure holds its finish for years instead of seasons. That longevity spreads the investment across a much longer stretch of trading.

APPROVED WITHOUT DRAMA

A design drawn against your zoning district clears review far more smoothly than one submitted hopefully. Fewer revision rounds means the opening date on your calendar stays where you put it.

ONE TEAM, ONE ANSWER

Splitting design, fabrication, and installation across vendors creates gaps where blame lives. Keeping the whole chain in one shop means questions get answered by the people holding the drawing.

ROOM TO GROW INTO

Signage designed with future locations in mind scales cleanly when you expand. Templates, files, and material specifications stay on record, so the second store matches the first without starting over.

WHAT WE BUILD

OUR CUSTOM SIGN WORK.

Custom covers a wide range, from a single lobby plaque to a full exterior package across a campus. These are the formats Salt Lake County businesses ask us for most often, each built to order.

STREET FACING

Storefront Signs

The primary identifier above your entrance carries most of the recognition load. We size it to frontage width, mount it to the structure behind the facade, and finish it to hold color under direct afternoon sun.

GROUND LEVEL

Monument Signs

Set on a masonry or fabricated base at the property line, these suit office parks, clinics, and centers where buildings sit back from the road. Landscaping and lighting are planned into the design from the start.

GLASS WORK

Window Graphics

Printed and cut vinyl turns unused glass into messaging space for hours, offers, and branding. Perforated film lets staff see out while presenting a solid image to the sidewalk, and everything removes cleanly later.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Lobby and Reception Signs

Interior branding sets the tone in the few seconds after someone walks through the door. Dimensional logos, backlit panels, and etched acrylic all suit reception walls, matched to the finishes already in the space.

INSIDE NAVIGATION

Wayfinding and Directional Signs

Visitors who get lost inside a building blame the business, not the floor plan. Coordinated room numbers, arrows, floor directories, and code-required markers guide people through without cluttering the walls.

SHORT TERM

Banners and Event Signage

Grand openings, seasonal promotions, and trade shows need graphics fast and often only once. Reinforced hems, welded seams, and outdoor-rated inks keep temporary pieces looking sharp for as long as they hang.

THE WORD ON OUR WORK

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY.

Restaurant groups, franchise owners, and property managers across the valley come back for their next location, which tells us more than any testimonial could. The comments that repeat most often are about speed of reply, clean installation days, and signs that still look right years later.

Common Questions

frequently asked
questions.

Business owners planning a first custom sign tend to ask the same practical things about format, approval, and placement. Here are the answers we give most often in early conversations.

  • What types of custom signs work best for a retail storefront?

A primary building sign carries recognition, window graphics carry the offer, and a blade or projecting sign catches sidewalk traffic looking sideways. Most retail frontages benefit from all three working together rather than one oversized panel.

  • How do I choose between an illuminated and a non-illuminated sign?

Trading hours decide it. If customers arrive after dusk or your building sits on a poorly lit street, illumination pays for itself in visibility. Daytime-only operations in bright locations often do fine with dimensional lettering alone.

  • Can a custom sign be designed to match my existing branding?

Yes. Working from your logo files, brand colors, and typeface keeps the sign consistent with your website, vehicles, and print material. M Graphics & Signs Inc matches color to your specified values before production begins in Salt Lake City, UT.

  • What is the typical lifespan of a custom exterior sign?

Aluminum and acrylic construction commonly holds up for 10 to 15 years outdoors, with finishes and graphics the first elements to show age. Refacing or repainting at that point usually restores the sign rather than replacing it.

  • Do landlords or property managers need to approve a new storefront sign?

In most leased buildings, yes. Centers and multi-tenant properties often publish a signage criteria document covering size, placement, lighting, and mounting method. Reviewing that before design saves a full redraw and weeks of delay.

  • How do I know if my sign will be visible from the road?

Visibility comes down to viewing distance, approach speed, and obstruction. We photograph the approach from each direction during the survey, then size letters against that distance so the name resolves before a driver has passed the turn.

  • Can custom signs be made for interior spaces as well?

Interior work is a large share of what leaves our shop. Reception logos, wall murals, department markers, menu boards, and privacy film all get produced to the same standards as exterior signage, matched to existing finishes.

  • How do I decide where to place a sign for the best visibility?

Placement follows traffic, not architecture. We walk the approach, note what blocks the view, then set the sign where it stays readable longest. M Graphics & Signs Inc has refined that over 27 years in Salt Lake City, UT.

HOW WE WORK

FROM FIRST SKETCH TO FINAL BOLT, HERE IS HOW.

STEP 01

Walk Your Property With You

We meet you on site, look at the building from every approach a customer uses, measure available wall and ground space, and check what power is nearby. Photographs from that visit become the base for every drawing.

STEP 02

Draw It On Your Building

Concepts arrive as renderings placed on a photo of your actual frontage, not as generic samples. Seeing scale in context makes the decision obvious, and revisions at this stage cost nothing but a conversation.

STEP 03

Confirm What Code Allows

Before anything is built, we check your zoning district for size limits, height caps, setback rules, and illumination restrictions. Any conflict gets resolved on paper, where fixing it takes an afternoon instead of a crane.

STEP 04

File The Permit For You

Applications, drawings, structural details, and property information go to the municipality under our license. You get updates as the review moves, and we respond to any staff comments so the file keeps advancing.

STEP 05

Build It In Our Shop

Fabrication starts once the permit clears. Metal is cut and formed, faces are routed or printed, electrical assemblies are wired to UL standards, and every piece is finished and inspected before it leaves the floor.

STEP 06

Set It And Sign It Off

Our crew arrives with the right lift for the height, mounts to a pattern so alignment is exact, connects power where needed, and stays until the municipal inspection passes and the site is clean.
